Interview with Christopher Cowen

1. What are some rawfood
staples in your current diet? B) Are you 100% raw? C) How did
you start?
Coconuts, greens, avocodos, cacao,
olives, and green juices. I am 100% raw 95% of the time. I got
into raw foods in 1995 by reading survival in the 21st century.
My yoga teacher, Kali Ray, was a big influence as well.
2. Tell us about your new
coconut oil, "Cocopura Oil" and how is it different
than other raw coconut oils on the market?
Cocopura is unique because is produced
by hand in small batches by local tribes in the south pacific.
Its the only oil that direct micro expeller pressed that i am
aware of. Meaning that the oil can be produced within an hour
of opening a coconut. What you are tasting is an oil that is truly
raw and energetically clean. Cocopura is a fair trade product,
i am not aware of any other coconut oil that is fair trade. The
oil isn't exposed to temperatures over 100 degrees and is not
fermented. Our coconut oil has a sweet smell and feels like silk
on the body simply because its so fresh. The entire process is
efficient, clean, and empowering to all involved. I am honored
to be involved in a sustainable product that i really feel good
about.
3. What is the difference
between a green coconut and a young coconut?
A green coconut is actually more
of a young coconut. There are different stages that a green coconut
goes through. For the most part they are the same thing. On my
website, www.greencoconuts.com. I have loads of info on these
coconuts.
4. What is the best way to
crack open a young coconut?
The best way to crack open a coconut
is the island way with a machete. I am able to open one in under
20 seconds. Anybody can do this with practice.
5. Are imported young coconuts
safe to eat?
Imported coconuts are not safe to
eat if they are not certified organic. The reason is because all
the thai coconuts that come into this country are irradiated,
which destroys roughly 80% of the enzymes. They are also dipped
in systemic fungicides and meta-bisulfite. They are also shipped
half way around the world which isn't a sustainable practice.
6. Can you share a favorite
raw food recipe?
Cosmic Kale Salad
1 bunch of kale- shredded and massaged
with sea salt so it wilts
1/2 lemon juice
1/2 c shredded red cabbage
1/2 avocado
1/2 yellow pepper diced
1/2 cucumber diced
handful of olives plus some of the juice
1/4 c ground flax
3tbs. hemp salads
handful of chopped parsley
Mix well and munch!!!!!
7. What are some quick tips
or hints for raw newbies?
Eat large quantities of greens,
go easy on the fruit. The one pitfall with going raw is the influx
of hybridized sweet fruits such as dates, bananas, etc
8. Do you have any dental
problems on the raw diet?
I haven't had any dental problems
with the diet. The reason being because i eat small amounts of
fruit. I also only eat primarily low glycemic fruits such as berries,
apples, and oranges.
9. Where do you see the raw
food movement heading?
The raw food movement is becoming
more and more mainstream. People are literally getting sick and
tired of the lack of quality food. If there was ever a time in
history when raw food was needed the most to assist people in
waking up it is now. One day very soon we will see things like
a raw fast food restaurant and that would be a great day indeed.
10. Can you please tell us
about some of your current projects you're working on and/or developing?
My current project is marketing cocopura
to the world, www.cocopura.com. I am also working on developing
a raw
chocolate company, producing gourmet raw vegan chocolates.
Do you have anything else
to add?
I am grateful for the awakenings
that i have experienced by being raw. This diet has changed my
life in a very short period of time. Raw is Regenerative!
