Fruit Smoothies
I made a light berry inspired mousse with the magical ingredient Irish Moss. Itís amazing. Irish moss is a seaweed that once soaked and blended well into a mixture can cut down the fat portion of your dessert. It has a gelatinous consistency and allows the dessert to hold its form. To make a mousse like I did you can avoid all nuts and use rice or oat milk in place of almond or cashew.

Creamy, sweet, sour, crunchy, smooth ... this was an absolutely perfect breakfast. And it takes all of a few minutes to put together. It's a bargain for us, since the local grocery seems intent on keeping the avocados on sale. I think maybe we buy so many now they're getting a better price on them!

Quince, a middle Eastern fruit with quite the history, has been traditionally used to create marmalades and jams. Marlie Centawer shares that in Croatia a quince tree is often planted as an aknowledgment of life, love and fertility after the birth of a child. This smoothie is sweet, creamy and unique, and it wouldn't be a Barefoot and Frolicking creation if it wasn't infused with superfoods as well!

Start your day with a bright pop of pink and 140% of your daily value for omega 3 fatty acids! Flax seeds contain high levels of this valuable essential fatty acid which helps prevent diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer, protects our cells from oxidative damage, nourishes our brains and helps keeps our skin cells well hydrated. Make sure to only buy flax seeds which have been kept refrigerated, and grind them yourself as the omega 3 fats are a highly volitile oil prone to rancidity. A coffee grinder or high speed blender works great for grinding fresh flax!

Here is a quick sorbet recipe! You can either make it in a food processor or hi-speed blender!

Iíve made blueberry smoothies with young coconut meat before and loved them, but the truth is that young coconuts can be time consuming and pricey. If you love using young coconut meat but just donít have the time, patience, or access, using coconut flakes will be possible so long as you have a high speed blender (those of you with regular blenders could try modifying this recipeóIíll give some ideas after the jump). The smoothie that results is super creamy and delicious, full of healthy, nourishing fats, and a beautiful color, too.

These little bowls are equally refreshing as they are creamy. Citrus season is in full swing, so grapefruit, lemon, mandarine orange, and clementine would all be delicious!

I could just juice and blend mangoes on their own and be a very happy camper. However, the addition of the lime, chili, and coconut water makes for a sensational combination of sweet, spicy, and exotic. I always feel like I vacationing on an island in Thailand when I drink this juice. Zesty, refreshing, and oh, soooo good! - Tess

Blueberries are really one the most magical, antioxidant rich foods on the planet Ė full of vitamins, minerals and fibre; and relatively low GI. They taste delicious and donít really need to be sweetened. Depending on your blueberries, you might want to hold off on all of the sweetener. I only had some frozen berries, so I needed a bit of a boost! The cinnamon is also optional. I LOVE cinnamon in blueberry pie. But, feel free to leave it out.

The beet is very high in antioxidents, cleansing, as well as super tasty when combined in a sweet smoothie like this one.

Did you know blackberries are the fruits with the highest levels of antioxidants? Yep, they most certainly are. Which means they fight free radicals, keep you healthy, and keep your skin looking young and fresh.

Not only are they tasty, but blackberries are also full of phytoestrogens which reduces symptoms of PMS, food cravings, bloating, and even hot flashes making them your best friend at that Ďtime of the month.

Speaking of which, I donít know about you, but I generally crave sugar when Iím on my cycle. Instead of reaching for a sugar-laden bar of chocolate, reach for this BerryBliss Mylkshake instead!

Planning to get outside and move that body this weekend? Fuel up with this all raw and organic energy drink developed by Amie Sue of Nouveau Raw! Why use dates and chia specifically? Dates are an amazing source of potassium to help balance out electrolyte levels. They offer a good source of naturally occuring fruit sugars which your body can immediately use for energy. Chia seeds offer an abundance of healthy efa's (omega 3's!) and complete protein to help the blood sugar remain stable. They've been utilized since the days of the ancient Aztecs as an incredible endurance food. This recipe is also super high in soluble fiber for a cleansing effect as well!
